Megan Ewerts work explores physical intimacy and its connection to consciousness.

Her depiction of the flesh is analogous to a gooey, shifting membrane. Neither whole nor fixed, the painted flesh exists in a state of continuous manipulation, influenced—formed—by touch. The physical connection becomes a stalled intimacy, an exploitation of a surface limited in its ability to communicate its greater emotional depths.

Her figures engage in wandering, heavy handed contact that moves and impresses upon their partner’s flesh until the skin becomes adjoined. Through their caresses, the skin is no longer a limit but an expansive experience intermingling separate entities into a greater form.

These bodies of fragmented limbs are aware of the transformative nature of the caress, seeking out the touch of another in an attempt at self-actualization.
